OET Preparation-Medical English

This intensive course is aimed at Medical Professionals who want to improve their English in the field of Medicine. It focuses on both, developing reading, writing and listening skills as well as enabling students to improve their communication strategies and skills across medical contexts variety.

The course will also focus on preparing exam strategies and increasing confidence with the Occupational English Test (OET). Student will use official OET Preparation materials and practice tests to ensure they achieve their course outcomes and best possible result in the exam. The course is structured into 20 hours of classes a week.

Sessions will cover a range of topics including: •Taking medical histories • Patient examination •Dealing with medication & prescriptions •Working in General Practice •Investigating real life scenarios • Discussing a diagnosis •Analyzing real case scenarios. Guest Speaker & Discussion Workshop The course also includes a discussion workshop with an experienced Medical Professional working in the UK.

The workshop provides a unique opportunity for students to ask questions they have directly to a health professional and to engage in professional dialogue. Students are encouraged to use this session as a way of personal development; sharing experiences and having a professional dialogue about a range of medical issues.

Course Outcomes

The course is designed to: •Expand students’ knowledge of medical terminology and vocabulary • Build fluency and confidence in communication with patients, relatives and colleagues •Develop competence with listening skills (listening to consultations, understanding tact, responding to questions) •Increase confidence in speaking (participating in role plays, explaining procedures, pronunciation and intonation) •Improve reading and writing skills (case histories, letter writing, pharmacology references).
